WW2 British Airborne Forces – The Red Devils

COMING SOON – NEW HISTORICAL WARGAMING MINIATURE RANGE

Elite Airborne Infantry | 1942–1945 | Normandy • Arnhem • Rhine Crossing

The Red Devils Are Coming!

Prepare to deploy one of Britain's most recognisable fighting forces onto your tabletop battlefield.

The WAR BODS WW2 British Airborne Collection is a new range of high-detail resin wargaming miniatures representing British parachute troops during the Second World War.

From the hedgerows of Normandy to the desperate fighting at Arnhem and the final airborne operations into Germany, this collection is being developed to give wargamers the figures they need to build authentic-looking British airborne formations.

Our planned range will include individual soldiers, infantry sections, command groups, support weapon teams and complete platoon collections.

Each figure is designed with distinctive British airborne uniforms, equipment and weapons, with poses suitable for both gaming and historical dioramas.

Small Figures. Big Battles.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND – BRITAIN'S RED DEVILS

Britain's airborne forces were developed during the Second World War to carry out operations behind enemy lines, seize strategic objectives and disrupt enemy communications.

British parachute troops became known as the Red Devils, a nickname associated with their distinctive maroon berets and formidable reputation.

Their operations included:

Operation Tonga – Normandy, June 1944

British 6th Airborne Division landed ahead of the main D-Day invasion, securing key positions, capturing bridges and protecting the eastern flank of the Allied landings.

Operation Market Garden – September 1944

The British 1st Airborne Division fought at Arnhem in an ambitious attempt to secure crossings over the River Rhine. The battle became one of the most famous airborne operations of the war.

Operation Varsity – March 1945

British 6th Airborne Division took part in the major Allied airborne assault across the Rhine, helping establish a foothold for the advance into Germany.

Our miniatures draw inspiration from the uniforms, weapons and equipment carried by these troops, allowing players to recreate historical engagements or develop their own airborne scenarios.

THE MINIATURE COLLECTION

The WAR BODS British Airborne range is being developed as a modular army collection.

Figures will feature:

  • Distinctive Denison camouflage smocks

  • British airborne steel helmets

  • Maroon berets on selected figures

  • Period webbing, pouches and field equipment

  • Lee-Enfield rifles

  • Sten submachine guns

  • Bren light machine guns

  • PIAT anti-tank weapons

  • Mortars and other infantry support weapons

  • Natural advancing, firing, defending and command poses

Our gaming-scale designs will use enhanced detailing and selected heroic-style proportions to improve the appearance of smaller figures.

Models will be supplied unpainted and normally without bases.

BUILD YOUR BRITISH AIRBORNE ARMY

WAR BODS aims to offer convenient unit packs for players who prefer to purchase complete formations rather than selecting every figure individually.

British Airborne Rifle Section – 10 Figures

A suggested late-war British airborne rifle section:

  • 1 section commander with Sten

  • 1 section second-in-command

  • 1 Bren gunner

  • 1 Bren assistant

  • 6 riflemen

This represents a useful historical starting point for a British airborne infantry section. Exact strength and equipment varied in service.

British Airborne Platoon – 36 Figures

A suggested historical-style platoon collection:

  • Platoon headquarters: 6 figures

  • Three rifle sections: 10 figures each

Total: 36 figures

Platoon command and section equipment can be adjusted to suit the chosen campaign, historical organisation or game rules.

British Airborne Support Collection

Expand your force with specialist teams:

  • PIAT anti-tank team

  • 2-inch mortar team

  • 3-inch mortar crew

  • Vickers machine gun team

  • Radio operators

  • Medical personnel

British Airborne Starter Army

A proposed larger collection containing:

  • Platoon command

  • Three infantry sections

  • PIAT team

  • Mortar support

  • Additional command and specialist figures

Final pack contents and quantities will be confirmed before release.

COMPATIBLE WARGAMING SYSTEMS

The WAR BODS British Airborne range is being designed for use with established World War II tabletop wargaming systems.

Bolt Action

Suitable for building British airborne infantry squads, headquarters and support teams using the relevant army lists and force-selection rules.

Chain of Command

Well suited to platoon-level British airborne forces, including section leaders, rifle groups, Bren teams and support options.

Battlegroup

Build larger airborne formations and combine infantry with supporting weapons and vehicles appropriate to the scenario.

Flames of War

Smaller-scale versions of the figures may be suitable for British airborne infantry teams and formations, subject to scale, basing and army-list requirements.

These are independent compatibility references. WAR BODS is not officially associated with or endorsed by the publishers of these games.

PLANNED MINIATURE SCALES

Figure Size Intended Use
6mm Mass battle gaming

15mm Flames of War-style gaming
