THE REDCAP CLANS

Blood, Iron and the Cursed Borderlands

A War Bods Fantasy Wargaming Collection

“The borderlands do not belong to kings. They belong to those willing to take them.”

The Legend of the Redcap Clans

Beyond the crumbling fortresses of forgotten kingdoms, where ancient forests swallow roads and the earth itself is poisoned by centuries of warfare, dwell the Redcap Clans.

These savage goblin warbands have carved out a brutal existence in the lawless territories known as the Cursed Borderlands. Feared for their ferocity, cunning and merciless raids, the Redcaps are more than ordinary goblins. They are a fractured nation of warriors, scavengers, hunters and ruthless chieftains, united by an ancient tradition of bloodshed and conquest.

Their name comes from the crimson caps worn by their warriors, stained red as a symbol of battle, victory and allegiance. To a Redcap, a clean cap is a mark of shame. A warrior earns respect through the battles survived, the enemies defeated and the trophies carried home.

For generations, the clans fought amongst themselves, their territories constantly shifting through ambushes, betrayals and savage tribal wars.

That began to change with the rise of Grukk Ironjaw.

Grukk Ironjaw — The Chieftain of Chieftains

Born among the broken iron hills, Grukk Ironjaw rose from a common raider to become one of the most feared goblin warlords in the borderlands.

Larger, stronger and considerably more brutal than most of his kind, Grukk earned his name after surviving a devastating battle that left his jaw shattered. The wound was repaired with crude iron plates and rivets, giving him the terrifying appearance that would become his legend.

Grukk believes that the Redcap Clans have spent too many generations fighting over scraps while the kingdoms of men, dwarves and other races grow wealthy beyond their borders.

His ambition is simple: unite the clans beneath one blood-red banner and unleash a war that will shake the surrounding kingdoms.

Those who refuse his command are given a choice — bend the knee or face his axe.

The Warriors of the Redcap Clans

The Redcap armies are a chaotic mixture of vicious infantry, heavily armed raiders, cunning ambushers and feared tribal champions.

Redcap Sword Warriors form the backbone of the clans. Armed with chipped blades, scavenged shields and crude armour, they attack in aggressive packs, overwhelming enemies through speed, numbers and relentless ferocity.

Redcap Axe Warriors are the brutal shock troops of the warbands. Often larger and more heavily built than their sword-bearing brethren, they wield vicious axes capable of smashing shields and breaking defensive formations.

Redcap Shamans are feared even among their own people. They commune with the restless spirits of the borderlands, drawing power from ancient burial grounds, cursed stones and the blood-soaked earth.

Redcap Standard Bearers carry the symbols of their clans into battle. Their ragged banners, decorated with skulls and trophies, serve as rallying points for the warriors and warnings to their enemies.

Redcap Horn Bearers sound the arrival of the warbands. Their crude horns echo through forests and ruined valleys, signalling ambushes, charges and the beginning of another bloody raid.

Above them stand the Chieftains and Champions, battle-hardened veterans who command through intimidation, cunning and overwhelming violence.

The Cursed Borderlands

The Redcap Clans inhabit a landscape shaped by forgotten wars and ancient magic.

Twisted forests conceal abandoned weapons beneath living roots. Crumbling fortifications stand above forgotten battlefields, while primitive goblin machinery lies buried beneath the soil.

Ancient iron roadways cross the wilderness, leading to cities that vanished centuries ago.

Some places are darker still.

The earth splits open without warning, ancient skull stones appear to watch passing travellers, and the restless dead are said to whisper beneath the roots of the oldest trees.

To outsiders, the Cursed Borderlands are a place to fear.

To the Redcap Clans, they are home.

The Militant Monks — Enemies of the Clans

Not all who enter the borderlands come seeking treasure.

The Militant Monks are a formidable brotherhood of warrior monks, bound by sacred oaths and trained to confront the darkness spreading from the cursed territories.

Led by powerful figures such as Saint Vaelen of the Shattered Shield, these disciplined warriors stand in stark contrast to the chaotic Redcap warbands.

Where the Redcaps rely on aggression, numbers and brutal cunning, the monks fight with discipline, faith and unwavering determination.

Their growing conflict threatens to become one of the bloodiest struggles the borderlands have ever witnessed.

Redcap Clans – Fantasy Miniature Scales & Compatibility

Our Redcap Clans Fantasy Collection is designed for tabletop wargaming, miniature painting, collecting and fantasy dioramas. Each figure features heroic fantasy proportions, with enhanced facial details, weapons, armour and clothing textures to give every character a distinctive appearance.

Available Scales

We offer our Redcap Clan resin miniatures in two popular fantasy wargaming sizes:

  • 28mm Heroic Scale – Our standard fantasy wargaming size, ideal for traditional fantasy armies, ranked infantry formations, skirmish games and tabletop battles.

  • 32mm Heroic Scale – A slightly larger option with greater visual presence, ideal for modern fantasy wargaming, character collections, role-playing games and detailed miniature painting.

Both sizes feature heroic proportions, including slightly exaggerated heads, hands, weapons and equipment to enhance detail and durability at miniature scale.

Compatible Fantasy Wargaming Systems

Our Redcap Clan miniatures are suitable for use in many popular fantasy tabletop games, including:

  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar

  • Kings of War

  • Oathmark

  • One Page Rules – Age of Fantasy

  • Frostgrave

  • Dungeons & Dragons

  • Pathfinder

  • Other fantasy wargaming, skirmish and role-playing systems

Please note: Our figures are independently designed fantasy miniatures and are not officially affiliated with, endorsed by or licensed by any of the above game publishers. Customers should check their chosen game's miniature and base-size requirements before purchasing.

Figure Heights & Proportions

As goblins are naturally smaller than human-sized fantasy characters, the stated 28mm and 32mm scales refer to the overall miniature range rather than the exact height of every individual figure.

Standard goblin warriors will generally be shorter than the nominal scale, while larger characters such as champions and Grukk Ironjaw will stand considerably taller.

Figure heights are measured from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head, excluding hats, weapons and scenic bases.

Scenic Bases & Customisation

The Redcap Clans collection includes a growing selection of themed scenic bases inspired by the Cursed Borderlands, featuring twisted roots, ancient skull stones, forgotten battlefields, goblin traps and ruined iron roadways.

Where offered, scenic bases are available separately in a selection of round and square sizes, allowing you to customise your miniatures to suit your preferred gaming system.

High-Detail Resin Miniatures

Our Redcap Clan figures are produced using high-resolution resin 3D printing to capture intricate details, including facial expressions, armour, weapons and clothing textures.

Miniatures are supplied unpainted, ready for preparation, priming and painting in your chosen clan colours.

Whether you're assembling a savage goblin warband, building a complete fantasy army or creating a dramatic battlefield diorama, the Redcap Clans bring character, brutality and dark fantasy atmosphere to your collection.

Important Notice – European Shipping Update

We regret to announce that we will no longer be shipping orders to European Union (EU) countries until further notice.

Unfortunately, due to increasingly complicated shipping regulations, confusing customs requirements, additional paperwork and ongoing customs clearance problems, it has become extremely difficult for us to provide the reliable delivery service our customers deserve.

As a small UK business, these challenges have made shipping to EU countries increasingly difficult and unpredictable.

We sincerely apologise to all our valued European customers for any disappointment or inconvenience this decision may cause. We truly appreciate your support and understanding.

We hope that, should regulations and customs procedures become clearer and more manageable in the future, we will be able to resume shipping to Europe.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Scale Model Figures Team

Do the Models Come Painted and Assembled?

All our products are supplied unpainted.

Most figures are printed as a single piece and do not require assembly. However, some larger or more detailed models—such as wagons and cannons—may be supplied in separate parts and require minor assembly.

Preparing Resin Models for Painting

These recommendations apply only to resin parts purchased from us. We cannot guarantee that they will be suitable for products supplied by other manufacturers.

  • Gently wash all parts using lukewarm water and washing-up liquid. Do not leave them soaking.
  • Avoid using hand soap, as some contain lotions or moisturisers that may interfere with primer and paint adhesion.
  • Allow the parts to air-dry completely, away from direct sunlight.
  • Carefully sand away any visible print lines or support marks, as required.
  • Fill any small pinholes or surface imperfections with a suitable modelling filler.
  • Wash the parts again to remove any sanding dust, then allow them to dry completely.
  • Apply a suitable primer before painting.
  • Paint using your preferred modelling paints.

Warped Parts

If a part arrives slightly warped, carefully warm it in hot—but not boiling—water until it becomes flexible. Gently reshape it, then place it in cold water to help it retain its corrected shape.

Do not attempt to force a warped resin part back into shape while it is cold, as this may cause it to snap.

Tacky Parts

Very occasionally, a resin part may feel slightly tacky. Wash it as described above and allow it to dry completely. Once dry, place it in direct sunlight for approximately 5–7 minutes. Do not leave it outside for an extended period, as excessive heat or sunlight may cause warping.

🎨 SCALE MODELLING & PAINTING FAQ 🎨

New to scale modelling or unsure how to paint your figures? Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

❓ What is scale modelling?

Scale modelling is the creation and painting of miniature versions of people, animals, vehicles, buildings and scenery. Models are produced to a particular scale so they look correctly proportioned when displayed together.

❓ What do scales such as 1:76, 1:43 and 1:32 mean?

The scale describes how much smaller the model is than the real object. For example, a 1:76 figure is 76 times smaller than the full-sized person.

Common figure scales include:

• 1:148 – N gauge
• 1:120 – TT scale
• 1:87 – HO scale
• 1:76 – OO scale
• 1:72 – Military and aircraft modelling
• 1:43 – O gauge
• 1:35 – Military modelling
• 1:32 – Large-scale figures and vehicles
• 1:24 – Large display models
• 1:12 – Dolls’ house scale

Please remember that figure heights can vary because real people are not all the same height.

❓ Are your models supplied painted?

Unless a listing states otherwise, our figures are supplied unpainted. Painted photographs may be shown as examples or painting references only.

❓ What colour will my model be?

Models may be supplied in grey, white or terracotta-coloured resin. Resin colour can vary, but this does not affect the model’s detail or its suitability for painting.

❓ Do I need to prepare a resin model before painting?

Yes. Carefully remove any remaining supports or small printing marks using fine cutters, a craft knife and fine sandpaper. Wash the model gently in warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely before applying primer.

Always wear suitable protection when sanding resin and avoid breathing in resin dust.

❓ Should I use a primer?

Yes. Primer helps the paint adhere properly and makes it easier to see the model’s details. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat, as too much primer can hide fine details.

Grey, white and black primers are all suitable:

• White creates brighter colours.
• Grey is a good general-purpose choice.
• Black is useful for darker figures and strong shadows.

❓ What type of paint should I use?

Water-based acrylic model paints are ideal for most resin figures. They dry quickly, are easy to mix and can be thinned with water or acrylic thinner.

❓ Do I need to thin acrylic paint?

Usually, yes. Several thin coats will give a smoother finish and preserve more detail than one thick coat. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next.

❓ What should I paint first?

A simple painting order is:

  1. Prime the model.

  2. Paint the largest areas.

  3. Add clothing and equipment colours.

  4. Paint the face, hands and hair.

  5. Add shadows and highlights.

  6. Paint small details.

  7. Apply a protective varnish.

There is no single correct method—use the order that feels most comfortable to you.

❓ How do I create shadows and highlights?

Use a slightly darker version of the base colour in folds and recessed areas. Apply a lighter version to raised areas where light would naturally fall.

A thin wash can help define recesses, while gentle dry-brushing can bring out raised textures.

❓ How do I paint faces and eyes?

Begin with a flesh-coloured base coat, then add subtle shadows around the nose, cheeks, chin and eye sockets. Use lighter paint on the forehead, nose and cheekbones.

At smaller scales, eyes should be kept very subtle. Large, bright white eyes can make a miniature look unnatural.

❓ What brushes should I use?

A small selection is normally enough:

• Medium brush for base colours
• Fine pointed brush for details
• Older flat brush for dry-brushing
• Larger soft brush for scenery and terrain

A good point and proper brush care are often more important than using the smallest possible brush.

❓ Should I varnish my finished model?

Varnish is recommended because it protects the paint from handling, dust and minor scratches. Matt varnish gives most figures a natural finish, while satin or gloss varnish can be used for leather, polished surfaces, glass and wet effects.

❓ Can beginners paint scale models?

Absolutely! Everyone starts somewhere. Begin with a simple model, use thin coats of paint and take your time. Your technique will improve with every figure you complete.

❓ Can you turn my photograph into a scale model?

Yes! Our Mini Maker 3D service can transform suitable photographs into downloadable 3D-printable models. You can print the file at home or ask Scale Model Figures about producing a physical resin print.
